E2
Thanks so much for joining us, can you tell us your name, where you’re from and what test you took?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Oh yeah, okay. My name is Ghanbayar Togtokh. I’m from Mongolia and I have lived in Ireland for four years.
I took IELTS last year after completing my E2 tutorials, and it’s been incredibly supportive and helpful for me. Every instruction was very, very clear for me to understand. And yeah, it’s been nice.

E2
Before coming to E2 what part of the test did you feel most nervous or anxious about?
Ganbayar Togtokh

For me it was the reading part because there are so many tricky things and we have to learn, techniques like scanning, and you know true and false, sometimes they’re going to trick us and that was the really scary part for me – except that the test was fine.

E2
What was your reason for taking the IELTS test?

Ganbayar Togtokh
The main reason is I wanted to get an IELTS score and then I will be able to apply for my Masters degree, which is what I’m doing now. I started my Master’s in Ireland a year ago, in September, and I’m doing digital media now.

E2
Did you do a bachelor’s in Ireland before the Masters?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I haven’t done a bachelor in Ireland, I did my bachelor in my country actually.

E2
Was there a particular IELTS score you needed for the masters?

Ganbayar Togtokh
It was 6.5.

E2
We know now that you live in Ireland and was that where you really wanted to move to?
Ganbayar Togtokh
Oh, not really. Once I graduate my masters, I’ll move to Australia, I guess. Or maybe I’m too Canada. Yeah.

E2
When you did the test, what score were you aiming for?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I was aiming for a 7 actually. But I did my test and I got 6.5, which wasn’t so bad.

E2
That’s excellent you got the score you needed. Did you get the 6.5 on the first time you took the test? Or did you need to take it a few times?
Ganbayar Togtokh
I needed to take it two times because the first time I was very nervous and I hadn’t really had the experience before doing the test so I had to take it twice.

E2
How did you hear about E2 test prep?
Ganbayar Togtokh
I heard about it from social media.

E2
And was there any particular reason that made you want to study with E2?
Ganbayar Togtokh
Yeah, studying YouTube is incredibly helpful for me.

E2
Was there any major reason that made you want to upgrade and buy a package? Because there are a lot of free resources out there, but was there something in particular that you really liked about us that made you go, oh, I wanna buy a paid package with this company?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Oh yeah, I actually searched so much about it and there’s so many packages. Bronze, silver and gold and all of them were supportive and nice and I took bronze. There were so many tutorials and small classrooms and the recorded classes. And I have been through a lot of resources, and it’s been so helpful for me. I think the packages are very helpful.

E2
And what in particular helped you most in the packages?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I would say the live classes because the teachers were so good and we had to learn the specific techniques through the live class. So that was very helpful for us and I think that’s the best selling point to give the students to gain their knowledge fast.

E2
And did you set yourself a kind of study schedule? Or did you just study when you could?
Ganbayar Togtokh
Yes, I do. For example, I study two hours a day.

E2
That’s pretty disciplined. When you’re preparing, were there any skills you focussed on? Were there any other skills that you felt were difficult or that you needed to spend more time on?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Yes, actually I need to improve my writing because the writing technique is quite specific. Especially in the beginning, like when you’re writing an essay, you have certain techniques that you need to learn and the teachers will be there for you to help you. And I have improved a lot during these courses.

E2
Did you learn the IELTS writing criteria?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Yeah that was very helpful, yeah exactly yeah. To know about the criteria and then I’ll be able to realise which area I need to develop my skills.

E2
And then in terms of helping you improve your writing, was there something in the package that helped you to do that?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Yes, actually we have so many particular things to help me for certain skills. For example, we have live classes for the writing skills. And there’s two classes in general writing skills and sometimes academic writing skills. And you can even go to the recorded classes to learn from the previous classes.

E2
And how did you use them, the recorded classes?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I used it a lot. You can learn whenever you want. If you miss the classes, you can just go back to the recorded classes and write down what’s the technique and what they taught. And yeah, that’s it.

E2
And were there any IELTS tasks that you found easy that you didn’t really need to spend too much time on?

Ganbayar Togtokh
For me it was the speaking part. And so the listening part was easy for me too.

E2
Did you find that your English confidence improved in life in general?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I would say definitely because my knowledge of English was so messy. Yes, I can speak English or listen to anything and write down things, but my academic skill wasn’t enough to communicate for higher education purposes. And then after taking the course in tutorials for about three weeks after, I gained my confidence. And I actually felt that, yeah, it’s great. And I’ve been improving. You have to be disciplined every day.

E2
Did you take the mock test before you set the IELTS exam?
Ganbayar Togtokh
Yes, I took the mock test. It was a free mock test.

E2
And was that helpful?
Ganbayar Togtokh
Definitely, yeah. That was giving us the early prediction of what the test is going to be.

E2
So focusing on exam day, How did you feel? How did you go?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I would say it was quite comfortable because I know I prepared for this exam and I know it’s a big day for me. I wasn’t so nervous. I was pretty like, oh yeah, I can do it. You just have to be careful. You just have to be listening carefully or read carefully and understand what it is, the structures they taught us. I have to think that as well. There are certain techniques you have to use. Yeah, that was quite a calm day for me.

E2
Great, that’s exactly how you want it to be on your exam day. And so if you could do your studies again, would you do anything differently?
Ganbayar Togtokh
I’ll try learning the techniques first and it will save my time. So that’s the only thing I want to do if I go back to studying.

E2
And since passing your IELTS test, it’s helped you to obviously get into your master’s course and how has that helped you in your life in terms of a career that you really love and are passionate about?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Once I took the IELTS and once I passed and got the score I wanted, I knew there is a gate that’s going to open for me to explore more about the world and get to know incredible people, get to know the lessons from the incredible professors. And for me to do that, I needed some certain instructors to help me to improve my English as much as possible, as quickly as possible. And it was that program we needed.

E2
And how do you find understanding the Irish accent? How did you find it when you first arrived and now?

Ganbayar Togtokh
Oh, I wasn’t ready. It was very tough to understand because the Irish accent is very thick. They scream a lot and they squeeze their voices when they’re speaking. When they make a vowel sound, you know, like, when they say like, buzz and buzz. It’s very different. Sometimes I feel like they have their own English, you know. But now I’m used to it.

E2
And what advice would you give to future students who would, you know, be doing something similar to yourself?

Ganbayar Togtokh
If you believe in yourself, you’re going to achieve it. So you have to believe in yourself and have to take the good instructors. And there’s so many ways to improve small tasks that you have to do daily.

E2
That’s amazing advice. And what’s next in your career? You’re doing your master’s in digital media. What do you hope to do?

Ganbayar Togtokh
I cracked a little bit about my study last year and explored so many things about IT skills. I’ve learned some coding techniques in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It was completely new for me. Understanding it in English and learning it from the English tutorial, the skilled language people, it was incredibly helpful for me too. And for my, career, like, I have to learn so many things, and then I will go into my IT field.

E2
Well, thank you so much for joining Ganbayar and best of luck in your adventure in Ireland.

Ganbayar Togtokh
Thank you for giving this interview to me too, and it was very exciting for me to give this kind of interview.
