IELTS Academic Reading
The IELTS academic reading test consists of three reading passages and a total of 40 questions. You will have one hour to read all three texts, answer the questions, and transfer your answers from the reading paper onto an answer sheet.
Keep in mind, there are a number of different tasks in the IELTS reading section, and each one is designed to test a different reading skill. So, if you are serious about being really prepared for your test, you must recognize each task type and know what skill each is designed to test.

IELTS General Reading
The IELTS general reading test consists of four to five reading passages and a total of 40 questions. You will have one hour to read all three texts, answer the questions, and transfer your answers from the reading paper onto an answer sheet.

What’s the difference between IELTS academic and IELTS general reading?
As you can probably guess from this overview, the reading sections on both the IELTS academic and IELTS general are nearly the same. The only difference between the two is that in the IELTS academic reading section, you will have three long paragraphs to read, and in the IELTS general reading section, you will have four or five shorter paragraphs to read. Both sections require you to answer 40 questions in total.
